Here are eight of the most popular specialty choices among medical students, according to a Medscape report titled Med Student Life & Education Report: Are Young Doctors Prepared?

•    Family/general medicine: 12 percent
•    Emergency medicine: 11 percent
•    Pediatrics: 9 percent
•    Surgery (general or specialized): 8 percent
•    Internal medicine/OB-GYN: 7 percent
•    Anesthesiology/Psychiatry: 5 percent
•    Neurology/Orthopedics: 4 percent
•    Cardiology/Radiology: 3 percent

 

Note: The survey includes responses from more than 2,000 current medical students.
