Healthcare delivery for senior varies by region, according to a Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice report, according to Money.

Here are six findings from the report:

 

1. The national average of seniors with a primary care physician as their primary provider is 56.9 percent. In York, Pa., 73.4 percent of senior had a primary care physician as their primary provider, compared to 42.6 percent of seniors in Metairie, La.

 

2. Only 1.2 percent of seniors in Meridian, Miss. had an annual wellness checkup compared to 26.1 percent of seniors in Clearwater, Fla.

 

3. In 2012, only 10.7 percent of Medicare beneficiaries had a wellness visit.

 

4. In Bangor, Maine, patients saw an average of 2.4 clinicians in 2012, compared to 4.7 clinicians in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

 

5. In Miami, 30 percent of male seniors underwent prostate cancer screening. In 2008, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force issued a recommendation stating providers should not perform that test on men above 75 years.

 

6. Although researchers have discredited placing a feeding tube in patients with advanced dementia does prolongs life, 14.2 percent of advanced dementia patients had a feeding tube in Lake Charles, La., in 2012, compared to 1.3 percent of cases in Portland, Ore.
