Here are four thoughts:
1. Millennials appreciate the use of technology, but only if providers use it in a non-exploitive and efficient manner. Patient portals and electronic health records often stifle patient engagement, so providers should use the technology to benefit the patient as well as the physician.
2. Millennials want a wellness visit to include conversations about healthy diet and exercise. They also want to create goals they can track on health apps and wearable devices.
3. With the influx of apps, appointments may become more consultative and collaborative, rather than directive.
4. If providers do not work to enhance their relationships with millennials, these patients may forgo preventable healthcare, ultimately to the healthcare industry’s detriment.
