Here are five things to know:
1. President and CEO of Stamford Health Brian Grissler and President and CEO of Hospital for Special Surgery Louis Shapiro attended the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon on the new inpatient unit at Stamford Hospital. The two organizations announced the collaboration in February, which began with outpatient orthopedic services at Stamford’s Tully Health Center.
2. Stamford Health will adopt HSS best clinical practices across the orthopedic surgery line under the partnership, and HSS will extend its brand into Connecticut, where the hospital has had a presence for around 20 years. “The collaboration through HSS Orthopedics at Stamford Health ensures the patient care provided here meets our uncompromising standards, with the convenience and comfort of the gorgeous new Stamford Hospital building,” said Mr. Shapiro.
3. The new orthopedic unit is 40,000 square feet and encompasses the fifth floor of Stamford Hospital, which opened its new facility last year. The expanded orthopedic unit will allow for more inpatient orthopedic surgical cases. The facility includes two operating rooms and 12 recovery beds as well as 19 inpatient rooms.
4. Around 50 staff members will be hired to oversee patient care at the new orthopedic unit.
5. Hospital for Special Surgery has ranked No. 1 in the nation for orthopedics over the past eight years by U.S. News & World Report, and consistently receives recognition for low infection and complication rates.
