Here are five things to know:
1. Throughout his career, Dr. Lubowitz performed more than 10,000 surgeries, including his last surgery, a knee arthroscopy, on Aug. 21, 2017.
2. Dr. Lubowitz stepped down from his role as director of the Taos Orthopaedic Institute, Taos Orthopaedic Institute Research Foundation and Taos Orthopaedic Institute Sports Medicine Fellowship Training program to focus on his editor-in-chief responsibilities.
3. Dr. Lubowitz developed his fellowship training program in 1999. Since then, he and his team of physicians have trained three fellows per year.
4. During his time as director of Taos Orthopaedic Institute, Dr. Lubowitz oversaw efforts to add a mobile orthopedic medical unit that continues to travel around New Mexico today.
5. Dr. Lubowitz is fellowship trained in orthopedic surgery from the Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute.
