Three notes:
1. Orbeye allows surgeons to perform spine surgery with a 3D guide. Bryan Wohlfeld, MD, the chief of neurosurgery at the VA, described feeling fully immersed in the surgery when using the microscope.
2. Surgeons operate while looking at a 55-inch high definition monitor. Everyone in the room, from residents to nurses, can see the live 3D video to assist the surgeon’s needs.
3. The VA North Texas Health Care System records more than 7,500 procedures annually. One of the first patients to undergo surgery with the technology had his lower spine operated on.
