Apple’s CareKit to improve health management: 8 things to know

Here are eight things to know:

 

1. CareKit offers a framework to create apps that harness data for health management.

 

2. The platform offers four modules: “Care Cards,” “Symptoms and Measurement Tracker,” “Insight Dashboard” and “Connect.”

 

3. The “Care Cards” module will remind patients to take their medication and complete their exercises.

 

4. Consumers will use the “Symptoms and Measurement Tracker” module to report their progress during recovery.

 

5. The “Insight Dashboard” allows users to analyze treatments’ effectiveness.

 

6. Consumers will share their data with physicians via the “Connect” module.

 

7. Seattle-based Sage Bionetworks and University of Rochester (N.Y.) are using the platform to track Parkinson’s disease. Houston-based Texas Medical Center’s patients are using the platform for recovery management.

 

8. CareKit will go live in April.
