80% of Americans deem prescription drug prices unreasonable — 5 takeaways

A Kaiser Family Foundation poll found more and more Americans are disapproving of prescription drug prices’ escalated prices, according to STAT.

Here are five takeaways:

 

1. The poll found nearly 80 percent of Americans reported prescription drug prices are unreasonable and support initiatives to lower costs.

 

2. Nearly two-thirds of Americans support creating an independent group to oversee drug prices.

 

3. A large portion (71 percent) of those polled said Americans should be able to import medicines from Canada and 90 percent stood behind the idea that the government should require pharmaceutical companies to disclose information on how they set prices.  

4. Less than half (47 percent) said they supported eliminating prescription drug ads.

 

5. Of those who reported taking four or more medications, 37 percent said cost is a barrier to obtaining those medications.
