Medscape surveyed orthopedists to discover how much time they spend with their patients, in its “Orthopedist Compensation Report 2018.”

Here is a breakdown of hours per week orthopedists spend seeing patients.
• Less than 30 hours — 15 percent
• Thirty to 45 hours — 43 percent
• Forty-six to 55 hours — 25 percent
• Fifty-six to 65 hours — 11 percent
• More than 65 hours — 6 percent

Below is the number of minutes orthopedists personally spend with every patient.
• Less than nine minutes — 12 percent
• Nine to 12 minutes — 36 percent
• Thirteen to 16 minutes — 32 percent
• Seventeen to 24 minutes — 15 percent
• Twenty-five or more minutes — 5 percent

And here are the hours per week spent on paperwork and administration.
• Less than five hours — 9 percent
• Five to 9 hours — 20 percent
• Ten to 19 hours — 41 percent
• Twenty or more hours — 30 percent
