4 recent orthopedic data breaches

Since the beginning of October, Becker’s reported on four orthopedic groups experiencing data breaches.

1. Hattiesburg, Miss.-based Southern Bone & Joint Specialists suffered a cybersecurity incident that may have affected the protected health information of 7,162 individuals.

2. Dallas-based Texas Spine Consultants experienced a cybersecurity incident involving patient information. An investigation into the matter determined that certain patient data contained in the email account was accessible by an unauthorized person.

3. Point Pleasant, N.J.-based Northeast Spine and Sports Medicine is investigating a December data breach. The breach occurred between late December 2023 through early January 2024. NESSM immediately launched an investigation. On Oct. 23, NESSM filed notice of a data breach with the attorney general of Maine.

4. Norfolk, Va.-based Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists experienced a data breach affecting 15,264 individuals. The practice was alerted to the unauthorized access of a corporate email account Aug. 6.
