32% of physicians spend 3 to 5 hours weekly on prior authorization

SERMO, a global social networking site for physicians, asked physicians how much time they devote to securing prior authorization.

The poll received more than 1,500 responses from SERMO member U.S. physicians spanning a variety of specialties.

 

The following reflects how much time physicians reported they spend on prior authorizations weekly:

 

• Zero to two hours —28 percent
• Three to five hours — 32 percent
• Six to 10 hours — 24 percent
• 11 to 15 hours — 8 percent
• 16 or more hours — 9 percent
