10 ways physicians say the ACA affects their practice

The ACA has made an impact on many physician practices across the United States. In a new survey from Physician Practice, The Great American Physician Survey 2016, only 32.1 percent said healthcare reform hasn’t had an effect on their practice.

Here are eight statistics on how physicians see the ACA changing their practice:

 

1. Deductible collection is now more challenging: 39.6 percent

 

2. The practice sees more chronic pain patients: 21.5 percent

 

3. The physician has a higher patient volume: 20.2 percent

 

4. Certain insurers dropped the physician: 12.7 percent

 

5. The physician dropped out of Medicare, Medicaid or other programs: 7.3 percent

 

6. The practice’s business was boosted tremendously: 2.8 percent

 

7. The practice has difficulty collecting copays/deductibles: 45.1 percent

 

8. The physician has seen claims denials because the patient didn’t pay his or her premium: 23.8 percent

 

9. Payers requested refunds because patients didn’t pay premiums: 7.3 percent

 

10. Physicians that feel value-based healthcare is a good theory but hard to execute in practice: 54.1 percent
