Here are five insights:
1. The Stem Cell Spinal Cord Injury Exoskeleton and Virtual Reality study involves bone marrow derived stem cells, and is registered with the National Institute of Health.
2. Researchers injected patients with thoracic or lumbar spinal cord injuries or diseases with BMSCs. The patients experienced motor, sensory and/or bowel-bladder dysfunction.
3. The study also deployed exoskeleton and virtual reality use for motor and sensory neuron stimulation.
4. At one month, the study’s initial patient experienced recovery of neurologic sensation. The press release notes, “one to two spinal cord segments improved from the original loss of function level.”
