While orthopedic and spine surgeons continue to express frustrations with payers, complaining of low reimbursements and tricky prior authorization processes, there have been several small victories for surgeons in 2023. 

Warsaw, Ind.-based nonprofit OrthoWorx has teamed up with the Warsaw public school district to prepare high schoolers for careers in the orthopedic manufacturing industry, according to a Nov. 21 report from Inside Indiana Business.

Since the beginning of 2023, 16 new devices created by medical device company Medtronic have secured 510(k) clearance from the FDA, including several spinal and orthopedic devices. 

Medical device company Alafair Biosciences has surpassed 12,000 implantations of its flagship product VersaWrap, the only class II medical device intended for use on tendon, ligament, skeletal muscle and peripheral nerve, including on nerve root in spine procedures. 

2023 was a big year for medical office building acquisitions and trades, with several facilities housing orthopedic practices being traded and constructed.
