Study: Novel Spine Device Can Improve Osteogenesis Imperfecta

A recent study showed a novel expandable spino-thoracic fixation device can bring significant improvements to children with type 3 osteogenesis imperfecta and thoracic insufficiency syndrome, according to Medical Xpress.

The device can improve pulmonary function, weight gain and spinal deformities. After 24 months, researchers found the mean Cobb angle in the coronal plane was improved by up to 32 percent. Caregivers also reported improved self-image and functional level in the children aged 8 to 12.
