Drexel names orthopedic surgery chair

Philadelphia-based Drexel University College of Medicine named Asif Ilyas, MD, academic chair of orthopedic surgery, according to a Sept. 2 LinkedIn post

Dr. Ilyas had served as interim chair of the department since December 2025. He is also a professor of orthopedic surgery and pediatrics and associate dean of clinical research.

In the chair role, Dr. Ilyas will lead efforts to strengthen and unify orthopedic surgery across the College of Medicine’s regional and affiliate campuses nationally and internationally. He will also continue overseeing clinical research.

Dr. Ilyas serves as president of the Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute Foundation for Opioid Research & Education and is the consulting hand surgeon for the National Football League’s Philadelphia Eagles and the National Basketball Association’s Philadelphia 76ers.
