Highmark, a Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliate, has established coverage for Mainstay Medical’s ReActiv8 restorative neurostimulation therapy for eligible members.

The policy took effect July 27 and identifies ReActiv8 as the only therapy considered medically necessary under the policy when coverage criteria are met, according to a July 28 news release from Mainstay. ReActiv8 is an implantable device for patients with chronic low back pain associated with multifidus muscle dysfunction who have not responded to other therapies and are not candidates for spine surgery.

The coverage decision applies to Highmark’s nearly 8 million members across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, West Virginia, Missouri and Kansas, the release said.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery. Apply for complimentary registration now.
