Orthopedic medtech company DePuy Synthes acquired Expanding Innovations, a developer of expandable implants for spine surgery, expanding its position in the growing expandable interbody cage market.
Expanding Innovations’ portfolio includes its X-PAC expandable interbody cages for transforaminal and lateral lumbar interbody fusion procedures, as well as a lumbar plate system. The company is also developing next-generation TLIF and LLIF cages and enhanced instrumentation, with plans to expand into anterior lumbar interbody fusion, according to a July 16 news release.
DePuy Synthes said the acquisition will expand its spine portfolio and complement its TriALTIS spine system. The technology also will be integrated into the company’s Velys enabling technology portfolio for spine.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
