Orthopedic speaker spotlight: Dr. Martin Jenter

Martin Jenter, DO, has spent the past few years building the kind of practice his patients now demand: physician-led, ASC-driven and designed for same-day discharge.

Dr. Jenter, a hip and knee reconstruction surgeon who operates at Henry Ford Providence Novi (Mich.) Hospital and Michigan Outpatient Surgical Solutions, has helped lead the privately owned ASC since 2018.

He performs anterior approach total hip replacements using the Hana table and offers robotic-assisted knee replacements with the VELYS robotic system, advancements that enable many patients to go home the same day and transition to a cane in under two weeks.

“A lot of people won’t pick you if you don’t have a surgery center,” Dr. Jenter told Becker’s. “You really need surgery center access.”

Dr. Jenter said the shift to same-day discharge has reshaped patient conversations as much as patient logistics. Many patients, particularly older ones, still expect rehab stays and longer hospital recoveries, and part of the job is preparing them mentally for how quickly modern outpatient joint replacement actually moves.

In a competitive market, he added, what tips a patient’s decision is rarely surgical technique. “Some people tell me, ‘You’re the first person who actually listened to me,'” he said. “You’re the first person who put their hands on me.”

Dr. Jenter is speaking at Becker’s 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, set for June 11-13 at the Swissotel Chicago.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
