Fort Myers, Fla.-based Gardner Orthopedics provided notice that it was the target of a cyberattack.
The practice determined that it was targeted April 29 and immediately engaged with a third-party cyber security firm to halt and contain the attack, according to a press release from Gardner Orthopedics.
The company’s backup servers were not compromised in the attack and were utilized to rebuild the network and restore the system within one week of the breach.
According to a notice filed with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights by Gardner Orthopedics, 47,000 individuals were affected by the breach.
Gardner Orthopedics is reviewing the type of data that was potentially impacted and the specific data involved in the breach, the release said.
