Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Del. added the Velys robot for spine surgery, a spokesperson told Becker’s in a June 23 email.
The hospital is the second pediatric facility in the U.S. to use Velys. Suken Shah, MD, is leading the robotics program, and more surgeons are trained to use it.
DePuy Synthes’ Velys Spine launched in August, and the robot was created in collaboration with eCential Robotics. The system is designed to plan and instrument spinal fusions.
Ascension’s Dell Children’s Medical Center North Campus in Austin, Texas, became the first pediatric hospital in the world to perform spine surgeries with a robot-assisted navigation platform.
