Ascension’s Dell Children’s Medical Center North Campus in Austin, Texas, has become the first pediatric hospital in the world to perform spine surgeries with an advanced active robotic-assisted and navigation platform.

Procedures will be done exclusively at the Dell Children’s North facility beginning in June, according to a June 19 news release.

The technology assists surgeons in complex spinal deformity cases. The dual-use system features a standalone navigation and an active robotics platform, tailoring surgical guidance to surgeon preferences.

Between Dell Children’s North and Dell’s main campus, the locations are expected to perform more than 130 spine procedures yearly, according to the release.

Spine procedures at the two facilities are performed by surgeons Matt Geck, MD, Kirsten Ross, MD, and Brian Kaufman, MD.
