Intermountain Health St. George (Utah) Regional Hospital has become the first facility in the region to add Velys robotic-assisted surgery for total knee replacements.

Procedures with the robot, which was introduced in November, are performed at Intermountain Health’s Southwest Orthopedics – Sports Medicine clinic in St. George, according to a May 28 press release.

The robot allows for surgeons to perform more personalized, precise and efficient knee replacements, sending patients home faster with fewer complications, less blood loss and post-operative pain.

Orthopedic surgeons Robert Jamieson, MD, and Darin Allred, MD, were the first to use the Velys robot at Intermountain, performing 250 robotic knee replacements to date.
