The court found that Synthes’ patent was invalid and therefore ruled that Spinal Kinetics did not infringe on the patent. The M6-C cervical and M6-L lumbar artificial discs are designed for patient with degenerative disc disease. The M6 artificial disc strives to replicate the anatomical structure and biomechanics of the natural disc by incorporating both an artificial nucleus and annulus.
