5 things to know about Zimmer Biomet’s new CEO

Zimmer Biomet on Aug. 22 named Ivan Tornos as its new CEO. Here are five things to know about him.

1. Mr. Tornos joined Zimmer Biomet in 2018 as president of orthopedics. The position was newly created at the time.

2. Before joining Zimmer Biomet, he was the worldwide president of the global urology/medical and critical care division of Becton, Dickinson and Co.

3. Mr. Tornos was promoted to chief operating officer in 2021. In that role, he oversaw global business and led global operations.

4. According to the most recently available proxy statements, Mr. Tornos’ salary as COO was $4.1 million.

5. Mr. Tornos is optimistic about Zimmer Biomet’s robotic future. In a Feb. 3 earnings call, he said he was confident the company would beat Stryker in launching a shoulder robot before the end of 2024.
