A meta-analysis by the Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery looked at 25 studies comparing Visionaire with traditional instrumentation, Smith+Nephew said in a March 6 news release. Each study looked at metrics such as alignment accuract, intraoperative outcomes and postoperative outcomes.

The studies show that patients who had surgery with custom instruments had a 40 percent reduction in odds of an outlier in the mechanical axis, more efficient surgeries, a 53 percent reduction in odds of needing a blood transfusion and an 11.1 percent reduction in length of hospital stay.

Visionaire instrumentation has custom cutting guides designed to reduce the number of steps and surgical instruments needed for total knee replacement.
