New Hampshire hospital 1st in state to install spine robot

Derry, N.H.-based Parkland Medical Center has become the first hospital in the state to offer robotic spine surgery, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported Aug. 15.

Globus Medical’s ExcelsiusGPS, which costs about $1 million, was recently installed at the hospital and will assist spine surgeons place pedicle screws in a variety of procedures.

“Providing the highest quality of care for our patients is a top priority and our spine care team is excited about this advanced technology to further help individuals who are suffering from spine disorders resume daily activities pain free,” Christian Klare, MD, a spine surgeon at the hospital, told the publication.

Parkland Medical Center was also recently awarded the Joint Commission’s gold seal of approval certification for spine surgery.

These two developments will help the hospital become a “destination for patients in need of back and spine care” in the region, CEO John Skevington said.
