Zimmer Biomet’s Q1 2021 spine and dental sales up 12%: 6 notes

Zimmer Biomet posted $1.8 billion in net sales in the first quarter of 2021 and expects to see up to 17 percent revenue growth this year.

Six takeaways:

1. Spine and dental sales were $246 million, up 12.1 percent compared to the same period in 2020. The categories were listed together to reflect Zimmer Biomet’s spinoff of NewCo.

2. Knee sales, which include disposable products used in computer-assisted surgeries, dipped 2.3 percent, to $614.3 million. Hip sales saw a 3.3 percent uptick, to $447 million. 

3. At $1.8 billion, net sales increased 3.6 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period last year. 

4. Orthopedic robotic capital sales and services are now listed in the “other” product category. Other product sales were $122.5 million, up 0.3 percent.

5. Sports medicine, extremities, trauma, craniomaxillofacial and thoracic sales were up 9.6 percent, to$417 .6 million.

6. Revenue growth is projected to be 14 percent to 17 percent this year, according to Zimmer Biomet’s financial guidance.
