The device was designed by U.S. and European surgeons to allow a completed 360 lumbar interbody fusion via two 15-mm percutaneous incisions. The system includes the Optiport access instrumentation and the Opticage interbody. The system has earned the CE Mark of approval in Europe.
The first procedure was performed by Rudolf Morgenstern, MD, at Teknon Medical Center in Barcelona, Spain. Patients undergoing surgery with the PerX360 only need local anesthesia, and the procedure can be performed in an outpatient setting. These factors contribute to cost-savings for payors and hospitals.
