Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush surgeon recognized with John Charnley Award: 5 insights

The John Charnely Trust recognized Wayne G. Paprosky, MD, with the Charnley Award and medal.

1. Dr. Paprosky is a hip and knee reconstruction and replacement specialist at Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush and a professor at Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center.

2. The Charnley Award is given to one physician who has contributed to the total joint replacement field. The award is considered one of the most prestigious in the arthroplasty field.

3. Dr. Paprosky was one of the first surgeons to perform total hip surgery with cementless implants.

4. He developed the Paprosky Classification, which is used worldwide in revision surgery. Along with Charles Engh, MD, Dr. Paprosky developed the first sex-specific hip for women.

5. Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush physicians serve as team physicians for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Fire Soccer Club and Joffrey Ballet, among others.
