The orthopedic specialty societies with the fewest women

Women make up 6.5 percent of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons members, according to an article in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.

The specialty societies with the fewest female members are:

  • The Knee Society: 0.5 percent women
  • The Hip Society: 0.6 percent
  • Cervical Spine Research Society: 1.5 percent

Women account for 17.8 percent of full-time orthopedic surgery faculty at U.S. medical schools, the lowest proportion of all medical specialties.
