Here are three things to know.
1. The system features three different rod diameters which can be interchanged for use in one tulip and fastened with a one-step locking cap. According to Dr. Babington, the design enables surgeons to lock the tulip without the presence of a rod.
2. The Swedge Pedicle Screw System features a choice of:
- Cobalt-chrome and titanium tulips,
- Double lead and cortical cancellous threads,
- Polyaxial, monoaxial, reduction, and iliac screws; and
- Minimally invasive screw options.
3. The Swedge system is currently cleared for a 5.5 millimeter rod; 4.75 millimeter and 5.0 millimeter rods are pending FDA clearance.
