The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation received a $1 million gift from the estate of former president Jorge O. Galante, MD.

1. The $1 million gift is one of the largest single contributions in the history of the foundation.

 

2. Dr. Galante was an orthopedic surgeon interested in advancements in total joint replacements. He pioneered cementless implant fixation and developed multiple hip and knee prostheses.

 

3. The donation will go towards furthering research and expertise in joint replacement through investigations of new surgical techniques, devices, joint implant designs and material and biology of joint disease and repair.

 

4. The OREF is a leading organization funding orthopedic research across all subspecialties.
