Surgeon implants 1st AxioMed viscoelastic disc in Australia: 5 highlights

Dr. Ralph Mobbs, of Australia-based NeuroSpine Clinic, performed the first AxioMed Viscoelastic Total Disc Replacement in Australia.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. Dr. Mobbs implanted the disc at Prince of Wales Private Hospital on April 28.

 

2. The patient had a degenerative cervical disc at level C6-C7.

 

3. The AxioMed viscoelastic disc is designed to restore disc height, lordosis, stability and motion of the spine.

 

4. Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration approved the company’s viscoelastic cervical and lumbar Freedom total disc replacement devices in 2016.

 

5. KICVentures acquired AxioMed in 2014, but AxioMed still owns an exclusive viscoelastic material license on its proprietary Freedom Disc technology.
