Stryker expects to make most metal-on-metal hip implant settlement payments by 2017’s end

Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Stryker Corp.’s subsidiary Howmedica Osteonics reported 95 percent of the additional registered eligible patients for a settlement associated with the company’s metal-on-metal hip replacements have enrolled in the settlement program.

The company’s initial settlement program was released in 2014 and achieved 95 percent enrollment. The 2016 settlement program compensates patients who had surgery to replace Howmedica Osteonics’ Rejuvenate Modular-Neck hip stem and/or ABG II Modular Neck hip stem before Dec. 19, 2016.

As a result of the enrollment numbers, Stryker will move forward with the 2016 settlement program to compensate eligible patients.

The claims processor is expected to begin claimant notifications shortly regarding the compensation payments. The majority of payments under the settlement agreement are expected to be made by the end of the year.
