El Pomar Foundation CEO William J. Hybl received the honor, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to the university and development of the new building.
The foundation donated $4 million in 2014 to help UCCS redevelop the land where the new building will sit. Mr. Hybl also serves as chairman of the United States Olympic Endowment.
UCCS envisions the William J. Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center encompassing “human performance testing, training, research and education, medical-based fitness, athletic training, physical therapy, an orthopedic anchor and sports medicine-focused primary care,” according to the press release.
The university will partner with Colorado Springs-based Penrose-St. Francis Health Services to operate the center.
The center will span 72,000 square feet, with a location next to the existing Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences. Construction of the center will commence in July 2018, with plans for completion by December 2019. The university did not disclose any financial estimates.
