Orthopedic surgeon Kenneth Sands, MD, is the first surgeon in Florida trained and certified to perform a new type of knee replacement, according to Space Coast Daily.

1. Unlike traditional total knee replacement, this new procedure does not require a surgeon to remove the anterior cruciate ligament to correctly place a knee implant

 

2. Surgeons think that preserving the ACL will help patients maintain flexibility and stability in their knee joints, even after surgery.

 

3. Dr. Sands works at the Melbourne, Fla.-based orthopedic care practice First Choice Medical Group.

 

4. His other specialties include minimally invasive total hip replacement surgery, direct anterior total hip replacement surgery and computer assisted total joint replacement.
