A prospective, microcosting analysis was performed on 118 patients undergoing a THA through an anterior, lateral or posterior approach.
Here are four insights:
1. Researchers determined overall costs (intraoperative costs and hospital stay) were significantly less for the anterior approach than the lateral approach.
2. Overall cost for the anterior approach was $7,300, whereas the lateral approach cost was $7,853.
3. The study also found anterior THA was more cost-effective than posterior THA.
4. Posterior THA costs totaled $8,287.
