Dr. Steven Meier discusses dangers of prolonged sitting: 5 key points

Orthopedic surgeon Steven Meier, MD, of Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Meier Orthopedic Sports and Regenerative Medicine, discussed a recent Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise journal study about the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle.

1. Dr. Meier said even very active people can experience negative health effects if sitting for 60 hours to 80 hours weekly.

 

2. The study found taking a short walk every 30 minutes will help regulate leg blood flow.

 

3. Dr. Meier’s practice educates patients about orthopedic injuries’ treatment and prevention as well as health problems associated with a lack of physical activity.

5. Dr. Meier completed his sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery fellowship at University of California San Diego.
