Dr. Homayoon Kazerooni creates new exoskeleton helping paraplegics walk — 4 notes

Berkeley-Calif.-based suitX launched the new exoskeleton that allows paraplegics to walk, according to ZD Net.

1. Homayoon Kazerooni, PhD, devised the technology, Phoenix.

 

2. In 2005, Dr. Kazerooni led the team that created BLEEX, the first viable actuated suit that didn’t need to be plugged in to work.

 

3. He worked with Ekso Bionics, but soon left the company to pursue his own projects.

 

4. Because of its relatively small market, Ekso has steered away from targeting spinal cord injury patients. The company is now focusing on the stroke market.
