5 of Medtech’s biggest deals of 2015

In 2015, Medtech was involved in merger and acquisition activity as well as several transactions over $1 billion in value.

Here are five of Medtech’s biggest deals in 2015:

 

1. In the cardiovascular space, Cardinal Health acquired Cordis Vascular, a provider of stents, interventional catheters, balloons and guidewires for $1.9 billion.

 

2. Two orthopedic transactions announced in 2014 were cleared regulatory and closed in 2015:

 

  • Zimmer’s $13.4 billion acquisition of rival Biomet
  • The merger of Wright Medical Group and Tornier with a combined value of $3.3 billion

 

3. Roche completed several acquisitions in 2015, the largest being its $1 billion acquisition of a 56.3 percent ownership interest in Foundation Medicine.

 

4. The $2.05 million acquisition of 100-year-old Welch Allyn by Hill-Rom created a company with revenue of $2.6 billion with a broad array of complementary patient care products.

 

5. Medtronic made several smaller acquisitions that supported its commitment to its key therapy innovation growth strategy, including Apdus Endosystems, Cardiosight Technologies, Advanced URO Solutions, Sophono, Lazarus Effect and Twelve.
