Shriners Hospitals for Children 1st to use IntelliSense Drill: 4 things to know

Shriners Hospitals for Children in Philadelphia has become the first hospital in the United States to use of the IntelliSense Drill from McGinley Orthopaedic Innovations, according to a Casper Journal report.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. The drill received FDA clearance in February.

 

2. The orthopedic surgical drill includes continuous hole depth measurement and auto-stop capabilities.

 

3. According to Amer Samdani, MD, chief of surgery at Shriners, the drill “provides valuable information on pedicle screw length which decreases radiation exposure.”

 

4. McGinley Orthopaedic Innovations, founded by Joseph C. McGinley, MD, is a medical device company focusing on the treatment of sports-related injuries and other musculoskeletal issues.
