Most orthopedic surgeons only discuss cost with patients occasionally, according to the Medscape Orthopedist Compensation Report 2015.

When asked if they discuss the cost of treatments with patients, orthopedic surgeons reported:

 

•    I regularly discuss this with patients — 24 percent
•    Occasionally, in certain circumstances — 34 percent
•    Occasionally, if the patient brings up the subject — 25 percent
•    Never, because I don’t know the cost of the treatments — 10 percent
•    Never, because I don’t feel that it is appropriate — 4 percent
