Dr. Guillaume, an orthopedic spine surgeon, recently began using Ellipse Technologies’ MAGEC rods. The rods are magnetically controlled after being implanted into childrens’ backs. This eliminates the need for frequent surgeries to adjust rod length, as was the case with traditional rods.
In the United States, around 300 children have had MAGEC rods implanted, including 10 at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, according to the report.
