5 medical resident specialties with lowest salaries

Family medicine residents earned the lowest salary as compared to other specialties, according to Medscape’s Residents Salary & Debt Report 2014.

More than 1,200 residents across 25 specialties took part in the online survey between June 20 and July 7. All participants were enrolled in a U.S. medical resident program.

 

Here are five specialties that earn the lowest salaries, according to the survey:

 

•    Emergency medicine — $54,000
•    Dermatology — $54,000
•    Rheumatology — $53,000
•    Internal medicine — $53,000
•    Family medicine — $52,000
