“The most satisfying aspects of being an academic spine surgeon are the opportunities to provide state of the art clinical care, participate in the education of the next generation of spine surgeons through our residency and fellowship programs, and advance our specialty through clinical and translational research.” says Dr. Cammisa. “Advocating for new ideas, technologies and directions is key to reach our goal of improved patient care. As a leader, I have focused on demonstrating that individual commitment towards common ideas and goals is the most productive way to work as colleagues. The Spine Care Institute at HSS was formed to foster several positive collaborations between the many different clinical disciplines involved in spine care. Similarly, our research program is similarly designed at maximizing the collaboration between the clinicians and our research staff.”
Dr. Cammisa earned his medical degree at the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University in New York City and completed his orthopaedic residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He has completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
