Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Mark Stern of Southern California Institute of Neurological Surgery

Mark S. Stern, MD, is a neurosurgeon practicing with Southern California Institute of Neurological Surgery in Escondido. He is an active member of the American Association of Neurosurgeons, California Neurosurgeons Association, San Diego Academy of Neurosurgeons and American Medical Association. He is affiliated with Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, Calif., and Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, Calif.

Dr. Stern is certified by the American Board of Neurosurgery. His clinical interest include all types of spinal pathology, chronic back pain, complex regional pain syndrome, painful neuropathy, back injuries and cervical herniated discs.

 

“A modern spine surgeon leader today must be able to adapt new technologies and create safe, novel approaches that over time have lasting benefit to the patient, the payer and society at large,” said Dr. Stern in a Becker’s Spine Review report. “The present and future of surgery depends on delivering tangible and intangible quality units of value to patients that are synergistic with criteria set by organizations that define benefits to patients.”

 

Dr. Stern earned his medical degree at Albany (N.Y.) Medical College and completed his residency at University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He has also completed a fellowship in neurological surgery from the National Institutes of Health.
