Spine Surgeon to Know: Dr. David Wong of Denver Spine Surgeons

David A. Wong, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon practicing with Denver Spine Surgeons in Greenwood Village, Colo. He also serves as director of the advanced center for spinal microsurgery at the Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver. He is a past president of North American Spine Society and chairman of the NASS Patient Safety Task Force. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Colorado Orthopedic Society and Colorado Medical Society.

Dr. Wong is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. His clinical interests include lumbar microsurgery, spinal disorders, lumbar disc replacement surgery, spinal cord injury, back injuries and spinal fusion. He is also a consultant for Rand Corporation, a global policy think tank.

 

"If you hear someone talking about value based care, you read that as cost containment because that's what the whole deal is about," said Dr. Wong in a Becker's Spine Review article. "The proviso of the whole thing is in order to do that, you've got to do a number of things. You've got to have a system in place to measure, analyze and target down to specific elements to where you might have some influence in your system."

 

Dr. Wong earned his medical degree at the University of Toronto in Canada, where he also completed his orthopedic surgery residency. He completed a spine surgery fellowship at University of Toronto Wellesley Hospital.
