The study looked at 52 patients from 68 osteoporotic fractures over six months. Those treated with the balloon kyphoplasty had the KyphX-Systems by Medtronic used.
The researchers found pain improved significantly with the Kiva system. New fractures were 12 percent lower than after the balloon kyphoplasty, and less than half of the cement was used with Kiva.
The study was published in the September/October edition of Pain Physician Journal.
