9 medtech notes: Medtronic, Stryker and more

From layoffs to quarterly updates, here are nine updates from spine and orthopedic medtech companies since April 24.

1. Conmed promoted its president of international and global orthopedics, Patrick Beyer, to chief operating officer. 

2. Spine medtech company 4Web Medical earned regulatory clearance to market its anterior spine truss system with anchor fixation.

3. Medtronic earned FDA approval for its Inceptiv closed-loop spinal cord stimulator.

4. Medtronic is laying off 44 employees from its Carlsbad, Calif., facility. The company's WARN notice was processed April 27 and will take effect on May 19.

5. Curiteva appointed David Schmidt as chief commercial officer.

6. Rebecca Whitney has been named CEO of spine devicemaker Highridge Medical.

7. SpinEM Robotics has closed a series A2 funding round, securing an $11 million investment from spine surgery innovator Spineart. 

8. Aurora Spine saw fourth quarter growth in 2023, according to financial results posted April 29. Fourth quarter revenue grew 12% year-over-year with $4.04 million. Revenue in 2023 hit $14.52 million.

9. Stryker saw a 9.7% year-over-year increase in sales during the first quarter of 2024, according to financial results posted April 30. Net sales were $5.2 billion. The company's medsurg and neurotechnology segment saw $3 billion in sales, an 11% increase year-over-year.
